A. Graphing requires a visual — you need to see a coordinate plane, plotted points, and the shape of a line or parabola to really understand what's happening. An AI chatbot works through text and can describe graphs, but it can't draw them or respond to a student's sketch. For graphing topics, tools like Desmos (free at desmos.com) work far better than any text-based tutor. Mr. E's Tutor is designed for the algebraic skills where a back-and-forth conversation is actually the best way to learn.
A. Nothing is saved. Your session exists only in your browser while the tab is open. When you close it, the conversation is gone — no data is stored on any server.
A. Yes — just tell the tutor you have a homework problem and share it. The tutor will work through it with you using guiding questions rather than giving you the answer directly. Keep in mind the homework problem needs to be related to the current topic — for example, if you're in the multi-step equations tutor, it can help with a multi-step equation from your homework, but not a graphing problem or a geometry question.
A. Research consistently shows that students learn more deeply when they work through problems themselves. The tutor is designed to ask questions that help you figure out the next step — which builds skills that stick. Giving you the answer would shortchange your learning.
A. AI tutors can make mistakes. If something doesn't look right, double-check it with your teacher or textbook. You can also tell the tutor "I think that's wrong" and it will re-examine its response.
A. The tutor is designed to stay focused on one topic. If it seems to be ignoring a question, try rephrasing it as directly related to the current problem — for example "what does distributing mean in this problem?" rather than "what is distribution?"
A. The 🧮 button opens a scientific calculator. The ∑ button opens a math symbol keyboard so you can type equations properly — fractions, exponents, inequality signs, and more — without hunting for special characters. The 🎤 button lets you speak your answer instead of typing it, which is useful on mobile or when typing math notation is slow.
